Our Beginnings

PowerScore was founded in 1997 by renowned test preparation expert Dave Killoran. Based on his extensive experience in the test preparation industry, Dave knew that there was a more effective and less costly way to help students succeed on standardized tests. His efforts resulted in PowerScore—a company that provides the most cutting-edge test preparation and graduate school admissions services in the industry.

A graduate of Duke University, Dave has been involved in the test preparation industry for over fifteen years. In 1991, Dave co-founded another test preparation company in Los Angeles, and he co-owned and co-operated that company until 1997. In 1997 Dave sold his 50% share and shortly thereafter founded PowerScore. At PowerScore, he serves as Chief Executive Officer and Director of Course Development. As an instructor, he has over fifteen years of teaching and admissions counseling experience and has scored in the 99th percentile on a variety of tests. A national expert on several different standardized tests, Dave has authored LSAT, GMAT, GRE, and SAT publications, and provided expert reference information for magazine articles. He is the author of PowerScore’s legendary LSAT Logic Games Bible and LSAT Logical Reasoning Bible. Each year, thousands of students benefit from the instruction contained within these ground-breaking publications.

Our Company Grows

Our success began with a series of innovative test-preparation advances, including the introduction of widespread, high-quality weekend courses as well as focused and insightful test preparation publications, nonexistent in the industry up to that time. Now PowerScore offers LSAT, GMAT, GRE, and SAT preparation classes in over a hundred locations throughout the United States and Canada.

Because of the high quality preparation we offer, we have become one of the nation’s fastest growing test preparation companies, assisting thousands of students each year to reach their educational goals. This growth has not altered the company’s original goal—to maintain the highest standards in the test preparation industry and offer the best possible classes for the most reasonable value.

Our Instructors Make the Difference

We employ hundreds of instructors across the country, all who have officially scored in the 99th percentile on the LSAT, GMAT or GRE exam they teach, or 95th percentile if they teach SAT. Our instructors are diverse and incredibly talented. A recent survey of our instructors found 24 practicing attorneys, 7 university professors, 8 high school teachers, 25 graduates of Harvard or Yale, at least 1 member of MENSA, 6 instructors with PhD’s and many others who are working on graduate degrees. Many of our instructors are employed in high profile positions, including but not limited to, a shuttle engineer at NASA, a criminal defense attorney involved in death penalty defense, a Smithsonian attorney, others who work for Federal Judges or in the non-profit sector, and one who worked as an attorney for the FBI.
