What is the SAT?
This standardized test is required for admission to colleges
across the U.S. In addition to factors such as teacher recommendations,
extracurricular activities, and class rank; the SAT is used
to measure a student’s success rate in college. The SAT
measures critical reading, higher mathematics, and writing skills
— elements that are considered essential for success in
college. The test will take 3 hours and 35 minutes to complete
and includes the following three scored sections:
•
Critical Reading — sentence completion questions, plus
short and long reading passages followed by multiple-choice
questions.
• Mathematics — multiple-choice and student-produced
response questions covering numbers and operations, algebra
I and II, functions, geometry, statistics, probability, and
data analysis.
• Writing — an essay, plus multiple-choice questions
on sentence and paragraph improvement, as well as identifying
sentence errors .
Each main
section is scored on a scale of 200 to 800 — one score
for Math, one for Critical Reading, and one for Writing. Your
total score will range between 600 and a perfect 2400. The
Writing section has two subscores — a multiple-choice
subscore on a scale of 20-80 and an essay subscore of 2-12
— that are combined to yield a final score out of 800.

Is there a deadline to sign up for the PowerScore SAT course?
There is no official deadline to sign up for our courses,
but classes do close due to size limitations. We recommend
placing a deposit several weeks prior to the start of classes
to guarantee your space in the course. If you know you are
going to sign up for a class but you or your parents have
not sent in your deposit, you can always call PowerScore and
we will place a courtesy hold on a space for you. The hold
will ensure that a space in the class is still available for
you when your deposit arrives.

Should I buy another study book to use before classes start?
Although our course provides comprehensive preparation for
the SAT, you cannot be harmed by exposure to the math and
English problems contained in other books. In class you will
learn a number of optimal techniques for attacking the SAT,
and that will help correct any bad habits you may have developed
by studying other materials.

The new SAT will not be harder but will be much different
