LSAT Private
Tutoring FAQs

Why Work With A Tutor

Private tutoring is efficient and incredibly convenient. Working one-on-one means every second of your session is tailored to you and your needs, and you'll get the most personalized experience possible. Whether you're starting from scratch or have months of experience, your tutor can craft a customized plan to fit your unique circumstances, helping you reach your goals in the shortest time possible. And because sessions are designed with only you in mind, you're in control: meetings can be set for times that work best with your schedule and timeline. No other prep option provides this level of convenience.

Using PowerScore content and official LSAT questions, you and your tutor are able to examine any LSAT concept or question needed, all deconstructed via our proven techniques and strategies. And since our packages include extensive materials and access to our Online Student Centers, you'll have a wealth of resources and a custom study plan to keep you engaged and improving before, during, and after your sessions!

Absolutely! Many of our students will work with a tutor to focus on a specific concept or question type that is giving them trouble, and with that focused attention, they are able to achieve their goal score. Five points can make the difference between acceptance at a good law school and acceptance at a great law school (and a better starting salary after graduation). And how does an extra $35,000 in financial offers sound? It might seem like a lot of money now, but it will pay off in the end.

Our Tutors

PowerScore has the same gold standard requirements for all of our tutors because we believe every student deserves the best. We have no doubt in our minds when we say all of PowerScore's tutors are excellent! We have a strict hiring process to make sure all of our tutors have not only mastered the test themselves, but have the communication skills to translate dense LSAT concepts in a way that's engaging and easy to understand for students with a wide variety of learning styles!

The LSAT is one of the most intellectually demanding standardized tests ever developed, and a top score requires true mastery of every detail. All of our tutors have scored 170 or higher on an official, LSAC-administered LSAT and are able to clearly explain the underlying principles so you can duplicate their success—no other national LSAT prep company matches this standard.

But it's not just about the score. Our tutors are enthusiastic because they truly enjoy teaching; they're proficient because we put them through a rigorous training program to master all of PowerScore's proven techniques; and they know what you're up against, because they've been there themselves.

Tutors are assigned based on availability and the student's strengths and weaknesses. Once your tutor is assigned, you and your tutor can actually have an initial phone call consultation before you put down any money, during which you can discuss a bit more about the tutor's background with the test as well as your specific goals and prep time frame. It's a great way to get to know each other and formulate a game plan ahead of time! In the rare case that you feel like you don't click, we will reassign you based on tutor availability.

What's Included

Tutoring is completely personalized, and tailored to every student's specific needs. Some students prefer to loosely follow our LSAT Course syllabus with their tutor but customize it based on their practice test results and progress. Other students may just want help mastering a specific section or question type. If you are unsure of what you need, the tutor is there to help diagnose your strengths and weaknesses and figure out a game plan that is perfect for you.

PowerScore tutors are trained only to assist with PowerScore's ideas and methods and therefore can only be helpful to a student when using a PowerScore publication or any past official LSAT exam that has been publicly released. For our students' convenience, PowerScore offers tutoring packages that includes both tutoring hours and materials at a discounted rate.

All LSAT tutoring packages include:

Comprehensive Course Materials

Your PowerScore course book offers cover-to-cover insights into our killer methodology, with lessons intricately crafted for the ultimate tutoring experience. When paired with online homework for targeted review, you'll have everything you need always within reach. And we'll ship it right to your home or office.

Digital Practice Tests

On the LSAT, success demands familiarity, so it's crucial that your prep feels like the real thing. LSAC requires all tutoring package students to have an active subscription to the official LawHub Advantage program, which is essentially a yearly subscription to their database of all available past LSATs to practice with. You can learn all about it in this blog post. You may purchase the $115 subscription from LSAC, or include it as part of your package, but we will not be able to show you LSAT content online until it is active. Once you have access to the LawHub Advantage program, you and your tutor can utilize a variety of tools in your Online Student Center as you make your way through your prep, including our intricate scoring system and performance tracker. This system will give you a detailed analysis of your performances on these practice tests; highlighting your strengths and weaknesses which can be used to help guide the focus of your tutoring sessions and overall study game plan.

Personalized Online Student Center

You also gain access to PowerScore's Online Student Center, a one-stop-shop for all your LSAT needs. The Online Student Center contains your Digital LSAT practice tests, an interactive test scoring and performance evaluation system that you can review with your tutor and track your progress, a vast array of lesson and homework supplements, and so much more.

No materials are included with Open Ended hours. These are ideal for students who already have a grasp on our concepts and techniques, either through a course or our Bibles, and just want a few sessions for fine tuning their skills with a tutor.

If you choose to purchase open-ended hours, it would be your responsibility to communicate what materials you have to the tutor and bring them to your tutoring sessions.

Payment And Policies

With such an individual goal-specific method of preparation like private tutoring, we are unable to make any assurances of one general score increase amount. We feel we offer extremely high-quality preparation, but there are still many factors beyond our control. For example, we cannot require you to study on your own outside of your tutoring sessions, but we feel that is essential to improving your score. We also cannot control whether students will face performance-inhibiting factors such as test anxiety, illness, or test center distractions. In the same way that quality schools such as Harvard, where a great education is offered, cannot guarantee your eventual graduation, so we cannot guarantee that your test score will increase.

We do, however, feel that the elite instructors and wealth of material available to you provide you with the best tools possible for your preparation.

If a tutoring package has been purchased and a refund is requested for unused tutoring hours, discounted package rates no longer apply: materials and any hours already completed will be billed at standard rates and an administrative fee of $50 will be assessed. If open-ended tutoring hours have been purchased, the student will receive a refund for the price paid for unused hours less a $50 administrative fee.

PowerScore's refund policy is provided in the Enrollment Agreement that all students sign before tutoring may begin.

No. No payment needs to be processed until we have assigned you a tutor. Once assigned, the tutor will contact you for an initial conversation and together, you and your tutor will develop an initial tutoring plan. Payment may be submitted anytime before your first tutoring session begins.

Of course! Current and former students receive a 20% discount on any of our tutoring options and are encouraged to utilize their course materials during tutoring sessions.

You must contact the PowerScore office to receive this discount at 1-800-545-1750, and a PowerScore representative will be happy to assist you.

Before your tutor may be authorized, please submit payment through our website, or through our office by calling (800) 545-1750.
